Michele Spurgeon
Director of Schools
Michele Spurgeon brings more than two decades of educational experience, leadership, and dedication to student success.
A lifelong resident of Polk County, Michele began her teaching career in 2000 after earning a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of South Florida. She later obtained a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in 2002. She taught for Polk County Public Schools before joining The Schools of McKeel Academy (TSMA), where she has become a vital part of the organization’s growth and success.
Mrs. Spurgeon joined TSMA in 2003 and has since served in a variety of leadership roles. She began as a classroom teacher, teaching kindergarten and fifth grade. In 2006, she became Assistant Principal at South McKeel Academy, followed by her appointment as Principal of McKeel Academy Central in 2009. In 2019, she was named Assistant Director of Schools, working closely with leadership across all TSMA campuses to support academic excellence, innovation, and strategic planning.
Now completing her 25th year in education—including 22 years with McKeel—Michele brings a deep understanding of the not for profit, tuition free charter school system of TSMA and a strong commitment to its continued success. Her passion for student learning, teacher development, and school improvement will guide her leadership as she steps into her new role as Director of Schools.
