5th Grade Team

Welcome to Fifth Grade, Wildcats!  I am originally from Evansville, Indiana where I graduated from The University of Evansville with a degree in Elementary Education. This will be my 17th year teaching, and my 7th year at McKeel.  I am looking forward to another great year at MAC with my new students!

What we Are Learning:  In this unit, students will be learning about weather and climate. Students will be able to do the following:

  • Recognize how air temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction, and precipitation determine the weather in a particular place and time.
  • Distinguish among the various forms of precipitation (rain, snow, sleet, and hail)
  • Recognize that some of the weather-related differences, such as temperature and humidity, are found among different environments, such as swamps, deserts, and mountains.
  • Describe characteristics (temperature and precipitation) of different climate zones as they relate to latitude, elevation, and proximity to bodies of water.

Test:  February 21st

**Students may request to re-take an assessment by completing the form under my "Important Files" on the right side of this page.  Students are required to provide evidence that they did something to help them better understand the material before they will be approved to re-take any assessments! Once the form is turned in with the evidence attached, the teacher will set up a time for the student to re-take the assessment.  The student should make the request in a reasonable amount of time.

Sign-up for Remind Messages!

We will use Remind as a source of communication this year.  5th grade teachers will send reminders via text to all 5thgrade students and parents that sign up. You may sign up as many phone numbers as you would like.  It is beneficial if you sign up both parents as well as the student, if they have a cell phone.  To sign up, send a text to 772-361-6452 with the message '@macgrade5'.
