Hello Wildcats!  I am Mrs. Harris, and I am excited to be teaching 5th Grade at MAC again this year!  This is my twenty-third year teaching and my fourteenth year as a McKeel teacher.  I graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Elementary Education.  I am certified to educate students in grades 1-6 and have my ESOL Endorsement.  I strive to help my students reach their full potential to become life-long learners through inquiry-based lessons.  I am looking forward to a great year!

Writing

We are continuing to work on Informational Writing!  Students have learned how to analyze a prompt, code text to identify evidence they will use, plan, write, and edit their responses.  I will be meeting with students to conference regarding their first assessment and continuing to provide lessons and practice to help students improve in areas needed.

Social Studies

Our Social Studies lessons will focus on American History this year!  .

We are currenly learning about the13 Colonies.  Students have been using multiple sources to locate information about the daily lives of the colonists who lived in the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies.  Our summative assessment will be Wednesday, February 20th, in which students will use their notes to compare life in each of the three regions.

Digital Citizenship & Goals

Students will learn how to become positive Digital Citizens this year!  They will learn the importance of using technology properly, expectations of using iPads in the classroom, how to be responsible with technology, and how to use digital information fairly. These skills will be taught in the homeroom classrooms at the beginning of the year, and continued throughout the year as needed.
