5th Grade Team

Hello Wildcats!  I am Mrs. Harris, and I am excited to be teaching 5th Grade at MAC again this year!  This is my twenty-seventh year teaching and my eighteenth year as a McKeel teacher.  I graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Elementary Education.  I am certified to educate students in grades 1-6 and have my ESOL and Reading Endorsements.  I strive to help my students reach their full potential to become life-long learners through inquiry-based lessons in Social Studies and Writing.  I am looking forward to a great year!

Social Studies

This week, we will begin learning about the early settlements in North America. We will put a special emphasis on the British settlements to lead into our study of the 13 Colonies.

Students have received grades in Social Studies! We wrote scores in the portfolio in the blue folder.  Please remember we have switched our grading system to percentages.  90-100% A, 80-89% B, 70-79% C, 60-69% D, 59% or less F.  Our new grade book is up and running and can be viewed by clicking HERE.  Students who scored a D or F and wish to retest to improve their grade on the U.S. Physical Features Summative or Climate/Vegetation/Geography of the U.S. Summative must fill out a "Request to Retest" form (see Important Files on my website or pick one up in class) and see me to retest by Friday, September 16th!

Writing

This month we will continue our study of Expository Writing! We will learn how to plan and write text-based expository essays.
